Worship and Arts

One inescapable fact of life is that we were created to worship. This can be seen most clearly in our inclination toward what we might call, "praise." Few have articulated this better than C.S. Lewis, who wrote, "The world rings with praise-lovers praising their mistresses, readers their favorite poet, walkers praising the countryside, players their favorite game.  I think we delight to praise what we enjoy because the praise not merely expresses but completes the enjoyment; it is its appointed consummation."

For this reason, the aim of the Worship and Arts community of Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church is to introduce people to God, the most praiseworthy being in the universe, by creating beautiful, meaningful, and transforming worship. We accomplish this through liturgy, music, and art; biblically-informed, authentic, and indigenous to our city.

Because we believe that the Bible is the inspired Word of God and the only infallible rule for faith and life, we also place a very high premium on the texts we sing. The tunes we choose can showcase the beauty and wonder of God's character; revealing his invisible power and his divine attributes, but it is his truth that ultimately transforms us. The great songster of the Hebrew Scriptures recognized this, writing, "Your principles have been the music of my life throughout the years of my pilgrimage." Like few other mediums of communication, songs have the distinct power to shape our praise, passion, prayers, and worldview. The truths they proclaim help us make it through the wilderness of this life to the Promised Land.

Therefore, we pray as a church that the music we create and the songs that we sing will drive the truth of God's word deep into your heart; that they will become the songs of your life; that the texts and tunes together would enlarge your vision of God, inform your relationship with Jesus Christ, and encourage you in his global enterprise of bringing the culture of heaven to earth.
