Concert Series 2008-2009
Music! The 2008-2009 Concert Series presents an affordable, eclectic series of classical, choral, pops, sacred, gospel — and a little bit of country.
he annual performance of Handel’s Messiah has for many years marked the beginning of the Christmas season at Coal Ridge. This work is, without a doubt, the most popular and beloved oratorio ever written in the English language.
Through the music of Messiah we participate in a new way in the life of the Savior. The work actually spans the whole redemptive message of Scripture: the prophecy of Christ’s coming and His birth; His suffering and death; and His resurrection and eternal reign at the right hand of God.
Indeed, through Handel’s music the Messiah of the world is made flesh and walks among us. When Handel finished writing this great work in a space of only three weeks, he simply remarked, “I think God has visited me.”
Handel did revise parts of the oratorio at later times, but the bulk of the work remains as originally conceived. It represents a high point of the Baroque period and has become an epic in oratorio literature and a masterpiece to the world today.
Be a part of our jubilant presentation as the Coral Ridge Concert Choir, soloists, and orchestra — under the direction of Dr. John Wilson — ring in the holiday season with the performance of the glorious Messiah. It’s not Christmas without hearing the Messiah and without knowing The Messiah as Savior and Lord.
