Dr. D. James Kennedy
“Excellence in all things and all things to God’s Glory,” is the motto of Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church. Dr. D. James Kennedy, our founding pastor, encouraged the Music Committee to adopt this motto for the Concert Series in its premiere 1972-1973 season. We joyfully dedicate our 2008-2009 Concert Series to the memory of Dr. D. James Kennedy for his inspiration, encouragement, and advocacy over the past thirty-six concert seasons.
Dr. Kennedy firmly believed that by building a series that followed these ideals, we would not only minister to our congregation but would provide quality outreach to our community and provide a forum for Christian artists. We have tried to keep these goals in the forefront as we schedule each new season. Our main purpose since its conception has been that of outreach from the church to the community. In order to have the widest appeal in the community, the Concert Series has had an eclectic series of classical, pops, and sacred/gospel concerts offering a variety in programming to appeal to different musical tastes and various age groups.
Dr. and Mrs. Kennedy have been our greatest encouragers and supporters over the years. Dr. Kennedy was involved in many of the decisions regarding the concert series, especially in the formative years. He took an interest in each concert, always available to meet each artist and pray with them prior to the concert as well as giving the invocation and benediction at each concert. He participated many times in the concerts as the narrator and always honored our guest artists by taking the time to attend the reception following each concert. We are pleased to dedicate our 2008-2009 Concert Series to the memory of Dr. D. James Kennedy for his total advocacy and inspiration over the past thirty-six concert seasons. “To God Be The Glory!”
